The Wisdom and Inspiration Of Gorillas

(The following is an article by Big Bad Ben Bergman over at Ben’s Power and Might blog. It’s a great insight into training like a gorilla for maximum strength and conditioning.)

I wasn’t always the fastest, strongest or the guy with washboard abs that girls that can flock onto. I was the fat kid in my early to late teens. At age thirteen I was 5’4 and weighed almost 200 lbs. By the time I was 20 I ballooned up to 5’10 and over 255 lbs. Not one of these years in my early days had me having a decent amount of muscle and real functional strength. Yes weightlifting gave me some strength but I couldn’t do a decent push-up let alone do any kind of pull-ups. It was a disaster for me for many years.

When I began learning Real World-Class exercise after a freak accident which in turn got both my legs broken, I wanted to learn how to not only get back in shape to walk again but to get in shape for the rest of the life. It wasn’t easy and I really never had any intention to lose weight because that I figured if it was difficult before why will it now?

Want to know why I’m telling you this? It’s because you can be a big man and still be as athletic as you want. Look at certain animals in the Wild like Bears, Tigers, Gorillas and Lions, they’re all monstrous for their size and yet they are very strong, agile and graceful. Why can’t a big human do the same thing? Anyone who is willing to give themselves a chance that is overweight can turn that around and give them an advantage. I’ am 5’10 and I weigh over 240 lbs. Most scientists would consider me overweight, fat and whatever they can come up with to say that I’m not athletic at that weight yet I can do things that almost no one my size can do. I won’t brag here but I will tell you this…You don’t have to be afraid anymore.

Being a big man has more benefits than you will believe. If you’re overweight and want to get in shape, learn and research from the best but you make the effort to make it happen. Being overweight sucks trust me I’ve been there but it doesn’t mean you can’t still be big and agile. Practice what you want to do. In my opinion the greatest heavy-weight animals are the Gorillas. Gorillas weigh upwards to 400+ lbs. but yet can climb trees, move very fast and have ridiculous strength. What’s stopping you from becoming strong and still be a big man?

There are many ways to get in shape and this is no different. Be who you are and learn to find a program that can work for you. Animal Training is the very best system that will get you shape whether you’re big or small. I believe in you that you can do it. Being big shouldn’t be a fear, it should be praised. Imagine yourself with powerful tendons, ferocious strength and have agility that’s off the charts, you can make that imagination come true. There’s no greater feeling than conquering the very things you fear. Learn from the Gorillas and become strong, powerful and athletic. Make the impossible possible.

Yours truly,
